WHAT'S NEW

TLP Foundation hosted its 2nd annual golf tournament today at the Kingsway Golf & Country Club, and it was another huge success, raising over $7,500 for our programs benefitting kids with cancer. This event put us over the $25,000 mark in funds raised to date since our inception in March 2006! Special thanks to morning radio personality Andrew Boyle from Kiss Fm 105.3 for adding a special touch to the evening.

Yesterday TLP foundation was honoured to host our largest and most successful outing since our inception in 2006. Along with 60 people representing oncology families from CHEO we had our own private car aboard the Hull-Chelsea-Wakefield Steam Train for a 5 hour voyage along the scenic route with a 2 hour stopover in beautiful Wakefield, Quebec. Thank you to all the families who participated, and to the Seed – Desai family & BW Services (www.bwottawa.com) for sponsoring this event.

TLP is very proud to announce that it will be partnering with the Seed – Desai family & BW Services (www.bwottawa.com) to organize an outing for 12 families aboard the Hull-Chelsea-Wakefield Steam Train on June 23rd, 2007. The Seed – Desai family is very involved in the local charity scene and we are thrilled that they have chosen to work with us on this event.

In total, our group numbered 46 people and we were joined by the following oncology families: The Charbonneau’s, Fraser’s, Pham’s , Bernier’s, Elliot/Madden’s, & Stinson’s. Thank you to all for a wonderful afternoon!

Today TLP foundation hit an incredible milestone by reaching 2 million hits to their website! This feat was accomplished largely due to the tremendous outpouring of interest and support for the “Birthday Cards for Shane” campaign, so thank you to Shane & Nathalie and everyone linking to our site for making it happen.

Birthday cards for Shane. Help us make a special birthday wish come true by joining Shane’s family, KISS FM , TLP Foundation and the thousands of people already getting involved in our campaign to inundate this brave (and very loveable) young boy with birthday cards. (His birthday is May 30th). Hint: He is into frogs and motorcycles – we know, weird combo! For information on card drop-off locations visit the link at KISS FM and let’s pay it forward!

Last Saturday afternoon (December 9th) was quite a treat as the families that were picked in the draw attended Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal's presentation of "The Nutcracker". All was perfect to get everyone in the holiday spirit, the one thing missing being the obvious lack of snow on the ground outside! The 5 families that were selected to participate were: the Laframboise family, the Arsenault family, the Richmond family, the Gallagher family, and the Adamson family. Thank you to all for making it a very special day, and stay tuned for our next event!

The TLP Foundation Treasure Chest was delivered to CHEO this week and will become the centerpiece for this program, which has been run by TLP since July. The weekend prior, foundation volunteers painted and decorated the Medical Day Unit "Blood Drawing" room to match the theme of the chest with an underwater feel. Special thanks to all the volunteers from Expographiq, a local design and custom fabrication company, who made this Chest a reality. If interested in supporting this program & having your company name prominently displayed in the lid of the chest, please visit the "Sponsor a Program" section of our website.

With the organization of this event, TLP's three core programs are now in operation. The mini-wish program fulfilled its first wish on August 4th, 2006 and the treasure chest program in CHEO's Medical Day Unit was taken over by TLP in July of 2006.

TLP Foundation's first annual golf tournament in support of kids with cancer was held on Friday, August 25th at the Kingsway Park Golf & Country Club and it was an outstanding event, to say the least. With 160 golfers, 29 hole sponsors, a 50/50 draw, a prize raffle and an auction there was a lot to be impressed by, and every single person went home with an armful of gifts - all while raising $12,170 for our foundation.

Here is just a small sample of the feedback we received:

It's an annual pleasure to work with the golf team pros like yourselves. The causes supported are always so worthy of all your efforts and you should be congratulated for making a difference in the lives of those who participate in the day and those who benefit from your tireless efforts in fundraising for their cause. What a wonderful group you all are!

Kudos on your debut event - it was brilliant! What a great day we all had, well done and count me in for next year.

Congrats again, you poured your heart and souls into the day and it showed.

TLP Foundation launched its Mini-Wish program at CHEO today and it's first recipient was 7 year old Shane Bernier-Leroux. His wish was a motorcycle building kit and he received a K'Nex Orange County Choppers bike kit, delivered within 24 hours of the request. As can be seen in the photo, Shane was very happy and showed off his great smile!
